The lowest / initial class of boiler engineers is third (3rd) and the Second-Class boiler engineer is a middle stage whereas the first class is the upper most stage.

  • -Matric with 4 years’ experience on the operation of boiler, or

 

  • -Diploma of Associate Engineer in Mechanical / Power / Marine Technology with two years’ experience on the operation of boiler, or

 

  • -Two years ATC / TTC Certificate in related technology with three years’ experience on the operation of boiler, or

 

  • -Middle / Secondary School Certificate with six years’ experience on the operation of boiler

 

Age limit: Persons below 21-years of age will not be admitted to the examination.

  • -B.Sc / B.E. Engg. degree in mechanical / industrial / mechatronics technology with one years’ experience on boiler, or
  • -Minimum Matric with Third Class Boiler Engineer Competency Certificate having one year experience on boiler
  • -Second class boiler engineer competency certificate with one years’ experience on boiler
  • Yes, for all classes of boiler competency examination, the aforesaid experience/ service certificate on the boiler is essential.

  • The minimum age for a candidate is 21 Years and the maximum age is 59 years.

The Board holds the competency examination of all classes twice-a-year (after every 6-months) i.e session March / April & Session Sept/Oct.

To become a 3rd class boiler engineer, a candidate has to pass one written paper (Objective / MCQs type) and a subsequent viva / practical test

The examination for class 2nd and 1st consists of two modules i.e. (1) four written paper and, (2) a subsequent viva / practical.

  2. -Steam Engineering & Pressure Vessels
  3. -Engineering Drawing
  4. -SAULT (Safety, Automation, Utilities, Laws & Techniques)

 

VIVA/PRACTICAL/ORAL TEST

          The candidate who passes all the written papers has to pass a subsequent viva/ practical.

The detail syllabus of all the classes is available on the website at icon “Syllabus” at home-page.

Total period to pass the written and Viva/practical test of class 1st, 2nd and 3rd is 5-years. After the expiry of 5-years’ period, the candidate has to apply as a fresh candidate.

A candidate who passes written paper of 3rd class competency certificate is allowed to pass the viva/ practical test within 5-years’ period.

On passing two papers simultaneously, a candidate shall be considered as placed in compartment. Total duration for passing whole examination of First and Second class each shall be 5-years. The duration of 5-years shall start when a candidate is placed in compartment. If the candidate fails to pass the examination in five-years’ period, he shall then have to appear in examination as a fresh candidate.   

Yes, if a candidate holds BSc / BE Engineering degree in mechanical / industrial / mechatronics technology (registered with PEC) and have 2-years experiences on boiler.

No. Only a 2nd class boiler engineer who has, after passing the examination, two years’ experience on the boiler can apply to 1st class boiler competency examination.

The admission forms of all the classes of examination may be downloaded from the website of the Board or may be received from the office of the Chief Inspector of Boilers, Punjab Poonch House Multan Road, near Chauburji Orange line station, Lahore. Photocopies of the admission forms can also be used.

Total marks for the examination of second class are 600, out of which 400 marks are allocated for four written papers and 200 marks for viva / practical test. Total passing marks are 300. Passing marks for each written paper is 50 out of 100 marks. Total passing marks for 4-written papers is 200. For viva / practical test, passing marks is 100 out of 200 marks.

Total marks for the examination of second class are 600, out of which 400 marks are allocated for four written papers and 200 marks for viva / practical test. Total passing marks are 450. Passing marks for each written paper is 75 out of 100 marks. Total passing marks for 4-written papers is 300. For viva / practical test, passing marks is 150 out of 200 marks.

  • -When a candidate passes the 3rd class examination, he can apply for 2nd class examination after 10-months or after the interval of one-examination whichever is earlier.

 

  • -When a candidate passes the 2nd class examination, he can apply for 1st class examination after 20-months or after the interval of three-examinations whichever is earlier.

The written examination of all the classes is held at Punjab University, Quaid-e-Azam Campus, Examination Center, Wahdat Road, Lahore.

The viva/ practical examination of all the classes is held at the Directorate General, Industries, Prices, Weights & Measures, Punjab, Poonch House, Multan Road, near Chauburji Orange line Station, Lahore.

Usually, it takes 4-6 months to make ready the competency certificates for dispatch

Yes, he can appear for the next class of examination in the board of other province, provided his certificate is considered equivalent to the respective class of competency certificate by that board.

A boiler engineer is entitled to hold charge of a boiler up to the age of 70 years and thereafter he is required to submit a medical fitness certificate from DHQ/ THQ after every year.

A 3rdclass boiler engineer is entitled to hold the charge of a boiler(s), the heating surface of which does not exceed 550 sq.ft.

A 2nd class boiler engineer is entitled to hold the charge of a boiler(s), the heating surface of which does not exceed1600 sq.ft

A 1st class boiler engineer is entitled to hold the charge of any capacity of boiler(s).

Any candidate may apply for rechecking of answer paper of the examination within one month of the expiry of the date of declaration of the result. The fee for rechecking of each paper is Rs.1500/-.
